March
14, 1989
Dear Allan:
This letter
is overdue and although you are, I imagine, indignant that
you had to wait so long, I hope you are also relieved that
it has arrived at long last. I had not forgotten my promise
to send you a few words about the CSIS members' response
to your speech of 19 January, 1989 but I temporarily lost
the ability to make good use of my precious time.
However, I am
going to use my tardiness to my advantage. Having delayed
the writing
of this letter so long, another meeting of the Ontario Region
group has come and gone. Chatting with some of the people
who attended the meeting of 19 January, 1989 allowed me
to hear first hand how they felt about your presentation.
Here are some of the reactions:
-- "Excellent
delivery. I later received a tape cassette of jokes and
recognized the artist, Mr.
Gould, so I listened to the tape instead of setting it aside.
He is very funny."
-- "I'm usually winding down after the afternoon's
events during the meetings but Allan
Gould woke me up and I didn't stop laughing."
-- "Everything he said was biting but so funny I couldn't
be offended."
-- "To be able to laugh at issues that touch our industry
is a rare thing and Allan Gould
allowed us to do that. He was excellent."
Obviously you were a great hit and we would like you to
join us again during our 1989-90 season.
You should not
have had to wait so long to hear you were "The Success"
of our season and I sincerely apologize. Please forgive
me and agree to join us again next year.
It was a pleasure
listening to your witty and sometimes hard-hitting profile
of our industry. You gave us much listening enjoyment.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Janet Banks
